One of the best parts about being an adult is the freedom to do whatever you want—whenever you want. You can dress the way you like, style your hair how you want, and decide how you want to present yourself to the world. It’s a freedom that most of us enjoy, but few take to the extreme like Amber Luke, a woman from Australia who has made it her mission to cover her entire body with tattoos.
Amber’s journey with tattoos started when she was just 16 years old. From the moment she got her first tattoo, she was hooked. Her desire to transform her body has become such a huge part of her life that she now describes herself as the “Dragon Girl.” Over the years, Amber has spent an astonishing $120,000 on body modifications to achieve her unique look.
And it hasn’t been an easy journey. In fact, Amber’s transformation has had its share of struggles and close calls. One of the most intense experiences was when she decided to tattoo her eyeballs—a decision that nearly cost her everything.
Amber recalls the painful experience: “Unfortunately, my artist went too deep into my eyeball. I was blind for three weeks. That was pretty brutal.” Imagine being unable to see for weeks after a procedure that was supposed to be an expression of art. It was a tough time, but Amber pushed through it.
Before her transformation, Amber looked like your typical blonde, all-American girl. But now, after years of body modification, she is almost unrecognizable. Not only did she tattoo every inch of exposed skin, but she also decided to undergo a procedure to make her tongue forked, like a serpent.
These extreme modifications have led her to spend a total of $120,000—$50,000 on around 600 tattoos and $70,000 on surgeries to further change her appearance.
Her transformation may seem shocking or even strange to some, but Amber believes it was necessary for her mental health and well-being. She says her decision to modify her body helped her escape from a dark and painful past filled with depression and suicidal thoughts. She explained, “I was so catatonically depressed, suicidal and was a walking dead girl.
I was numb. I hated myself majority of the time – that hatred ran deep. It tormented me. Now, I’ve totally transformed myself into someone I’m proud of being. I’m a strong woman who knows exactly what she wants and who she is.”
In fact, Amber has shared pictures of herself from before her body modifications, showing how much she has changed. The transformation is so dramatic that it’s almost hard to believe she is the same person. Despite the criticism she faced when she got her first tattoo, Amber has never let negativity hold her back from reaching her goal of fully expressing herself through body art.
Some people may not understand or agree with Amber’s choices, but that doesn’t matter to her. What matters most is that she is happy and comfortable in her own skin. After all, it’s her body, and she gets to decide what to do with it.
Amber’s journey is a powerful reminder that we all have the right to express ourselves however we choose, and as long as we are true to ourselves, that’s what truly counts.
