Nine-year-old Noah from Florida has a dream of becoming a police officer. He believes that police officers play a vital role in our society and deserve a lot of respect.
On “Bring Your Kid to Work” Day, Noah’s mom took him to her job at a restaurant. As Noah watched people come and go at Danny’s, he saw a police officer walk in. The officer, Mr. Benitez, was there to eat lunch alone, and Noah saw a chance to do something special.
Noah asked his mom if he could buy the officer’s lunch. This surprised his mom, Amanda, but she agreed. She asked Noah why he wanted to do it, and Noah said, “I don’t know who the officer is, but I appreciate his service and just want to say thank you.”
Noah’s mom got the bill, and Noah paid for it with her help. He also wrote a note on the receipt: “I want to be you when I grow up. I appreciate your service.”
Noah then nervously approached Officer Benitez with the receipt. Amanda said the officer was so surprised he jumped out of his seat when Noah handed it to him.
At first, Officer Benitez was puzzled, but after reading the note, he stood up and shook Noah’s hand.
The Lakeland Police Department later posted a picture of the moment online. They wrote, “Well, Noah, you touched all of our hearts today. All of the men and women who wear uniforms every day much appreciate your support.”
Officer Benitez was very grateful to Noah and his mother for buying him lunch and making his day brighter. He said, “Noah really made a difference.
He reminds me why I get up every morning, put on my uniform, and do my job. It’s for people like him that I strive to set a good example.”
Noah understands the important role police officers play in our society, which is why he dreams of becoming one himself one day. His mom Amanda said that if that happens, she would be a “proud mother.”
