Woman sneaks out from the restaurant, when her fiance demanded her to pay the restaurant bill

On Reddit, a woman shared a story that got everyone talking. She revealed that her fiancé often teased her for making more money than he did, and he expected her to pay for meals—not just for herself, but for him and his friends too.

After she got a 30% raise, she said, “My fiancé (37) and I got engaged five months ago. We usually avoid talking about money because he doesn’t like it. But since my recent pay increase, he’s been using my salary as a reason for me to cover the bills for him and his friends. Whenever I questioned it, he’d just say, ‘the 30%—that’s why,’ as if I didn’t deserve the raise or it was unfair.”

Before they headed out for dinner one evening, she firmly told him, “I won’t be paying this time.” He had tricked her into paying in the past, often asking her to cover the meals in front of others. Being polite, she would smile and pay to keep the peace, especially in public places like restaurants.

Last Tuesday, when he invited her to dinner with his friends, she made it clear: “I will not be paying for their meals.” He seemed fine with it, saying, “Got this, no worries.”

But during dinner, he leaned over and whispered, “You’re going to pay again.” She calmly replied, “No.” She could sense he was counting on her to stay quiet in front of his friends. Then he pushed, saying, “You have enough money to pay for everyone’s food.” That was the moment her anger boiled over.

After she settled her own bill, she decided to leave. “I kept my cool instead of reacting angrily. After our orders were taken and the bills divided, I paid for mine, excused myself to the bathroom, then slipped out and drove home.”

Later, her fiancé started texting and calling, asking where she was. She texted back, explaining how upset she felt that he had put her in that situation and had tricked her into paying for his and his friends’ meals. “I told him I was going home,” she said, and then she stopped responding.

An hour later, he showed up at her place, furious. He started yelling, calling her selfish, irrational, a cheapskate, and childish for sneaking out and leaving him with a bill he couldn’t pay. “He had to call his brother for help!” she added, recalling their argument. After a tense exchange, he stormed out.

His friends didn’t approach her about it, but he mentioned they were disappointed in her actions and suggested he rethink the kind of woman he wanted to marry.

In that moment, she felt a mix of emotions—anger, sadness, and confusion. Was it time to reconsider their relationship?
