Life can be really tough these days. Everyone needs help sometimes, and it’s important for our mental health to ask for it when we do. That’s exactly what one woman did.
She needed someone to take care of her pets while she went on a trip. She asked her neighbor for help, not expecting the amazing response she would get. Keep reading to find out what happened!
The woman had three dogs—Smokey, Oreo, and Jennifer—that needed looking after. Finding care for one dog is hard enough, but three is a whole different challenge.
To her surprise, her retired neighbor agreed to help in her time of need!
When she got back from her trip, she found an envelope slipped under her door. Inside was a letter so incredible she later posted it on Reddit.
The letter was short and sweet. It started by wishing her a pleasant afternoon. “This letter is about your vacation two weeks ago, and how you let me babysit Smokey, Oreo, and Jennifer,” it read. “I just wanted to write you a letter of gratitude.”
“You know I’m pretty old. I don’t get out much anymore because the neighborhood isn’t as lively as it used to be. Plus, my dad was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer two years ago, right in the middle of the pandemic. After he passed away, I was left living alone in my house. I don’t have a spouse or children. Sometimes, I worry I’ll go to sleep and never wake up. Every day, I wonder what I’ve done with my life.
That is, until I met Jennifer, Oreo, and Smokey.
Your dogs are the cutest, funniest, and most lovable little troublemakers I’ve ever met (don’t worry, they didn’t wreck my house too much!). They made me want to start living again. I started waking up early every morning. For the first time in years, I began taking walks outside with your dogs. They cheered me up every ten minutes by rubbing against my leg or barking.
I took them to the park, and that was the best part of their stay. I hadn’t spent that much time outside in a long time. It not only helped me reconnect with pets, but I also met new people and made friends. Being able to talk to others and feel like a part of the world again made me so happy.
I know I sound really deep right now, but I’m being honest. Knowing that I’m helping someone, even if it’s just my neighbor, makes me happy.
Soon after, I adopted two dogs of my own. (Sorry if you’ve heard noise from my house!) Now, I take them to the park regularly and chat with the new friends I’ve made. Anyway, I just wanted to say thank you. You gave my life purpose again. And that’s what matters most.
Regards,
Robert (P.S. I think your lawn needs mowing, haha!)
Reading this letter can bring anyone to tears! She was so touched that she posted it online for everyone to see.
