We settled into a house that had previously been owned by a man who had passed away, and a dog visited us daily. One day, I decided to follow it

When Maggie, her son Ethan, and her husband Kyle move into their new house, they are excited about starting fresh. Ethan needs a new school and a change of scenery after dealing with bullying, and Maggie just wants him to be happy. But soon, a mysterious husky appears in their yard, eating their food and bonding with Ethan.

Little do they know, this husky will lead them into the woods to uncover something shocking…

As we settled into our new house, I felt a spark of hope. This was a chance for a new beginning, and I couldn’t wait. Kyle and I wanted to give Ethan a fresh start after everything he’d gone through at his old school. We all wanted to leave the past behind.

The house belonged to an older man named Christopher, who had recently passed away. His daughter, a woman in her forties, sold it to us. She explained that it was too painful for her to keep, saying she hadn’t lived there since her father’s death.

“There are too many memories in there, you know?” she said, looking sad. “I don’t want it to get into the wrong hands. I want it to be a home for a family who will love it as much as my family did.”

“I understand completely, Tracy,” I assured her. “We’ll make this house into our forever home.”

We were eager to get settled, but something strange happened on the very first day. Every morning, an old husky would show up at our front door. His fur was graying, and his piercing blue eyes seemed to look right through me.

He didn’t bark or whine; he just sat there, patiently waiting. Of course, we fed him, thinking he belonged to someone nearby. After his meal, he would wander off like it was part of his daily routine.

“Do you think his owners don’t feed him enough, Mom?” Ethan asked one day while we were grocery shopping, picking up some food for the husky too.

“I’m not sure, E,” I replied. “Maybe the old man who lived in our house used to feed him, so now he thinks this is still home?”

“Yeah, that makes sense!” Ethan said, tossing some dog treats into the cart.

At first, we didn’t think much about it. Kyle and I were planning to get Ethan a dog, but we wanted to wait until he settled into his new school.

But the husky kept coming back, day after day, always at the same time, patiently waiting by the porch.

It felt like he wasn’t just any stray. It was as if he belonged here, and we were just visitors in his space. It was strange, but we didn’t pay it much mind.

Ethan was thrilled. He quickly formed a bond with the husky, running around with him, tossing sticks, and chatting away as if they had been friends forever. I often watched from the kitchen window, smiling as I saw Ethan light up with joy. This dog was exactly what he needed after everything he had faced.

One morning, while petting the dog, Ethan suddenly exclaimed, “Mom, there’s a name here!”

Curious, I came over and knelt beside the husky, brushing aside the fur on his collar. The name was worn but readable:

Christopher Jr.

My heart raced. Could it be just a coincidence? Was this husky really named after the man who owned our house? The thought sent chills down my spine. Tracy hadn’t mentioned anything about a dog.

“Do you think he’s coming here because it used to be his home?” Ethan asked, looking up at me with wide eyes.

I shrugged, feeling uneasy. “Maybe, sweetheart. But it’s hard to say for sure.”

At that moment, it felt like the husky wasn’t just any stray; he acted like he belonged. We were just temporary guests in his home. It was strange, but we brushed it off.

Later that day, after Christopher Jr. had eaten, he started acting odd. He whined softly, pacing near the edge of the yard, eyes darting toward the woods as if he wanted us to follow him.

“Mom, I think he wants us to go with him!” Ethan said, excitement shining in his eyes as he pulled on his jacket.

I hesitated, my instincts screaming caution. “Darling, I’m not sure that’s a good idea…”

“Come on, Mom!” Ethan urged. “We have to see where he’s going! We’ll take our phones and text Dad so he knows where we are. Please?”

Despite my reservations, curiosity got the better of me. Something about the dog’s urgency made me feel like this was important.

So, we followed.

The husky led the way, looking back every now and then to make sure we were still there. The crisp air surrounded us, and the woods were peaceful, except for the occasional snap of a twig under our feet.

“Are you sure about this?” I asked Ethan, who was practically bouncing with excitement.

“Yes!” he replied. “Dad has our location, so don’t worry, Mom.”

We walked deeper and deeper into the forest for about twenty minutes. I was just about to suggest turning back when the husky abruptly stopped at a small clearing.

That’s when I saw it—a pregnant fox, trapped in a hunter’s snare, barely moving.

“Oh my God,” I gasped, rushing toward the fox.

She looked weak, her breathing shallow, and her fur was matted with dirt. The trap had dug painfully into her leg, and she trembled with fear.

“Mom, we have to help her!” Ethan exclaimed, his voice trembling. “Look at her, she’s hurt!”

“I know, I know,” I said, my hands fumbling as I tried to free her from the cruel trap. The husky stood close by, whining softly as if he understood the fox’s pain.

After what felt like forever, I finally managed to loosen the trap. The fox lay there for a moment, panting heavily.

“We need to get her to the vet right away, E,” I said, pulling out my phone to call Kyle.

When Kyle arrived, we carefully wrapped the fox in a blanket he brought and rushed her to the nearest vet clinic. Christopher Jr. came with us, refusing to leave her side.

The vet said the fox needed surgery, and we waited nervously in a small room. Ethan sat quietly next to the husky, his hands resting on the dog’s thick fur.

“Do you think she’ll make it, Mom?” Ethan asked, worry etched on his face.

“I hope so, honey,” I said, squeezing his shoulder. “She’s tough, and we did everything we could.”

The surgery went well, but when the fox woke up, she howled, her cries echoing through the clinic. The vet and Kyle tried to calm her down, but nothing worked. Then I stepped into the room, and she stopped howling. Her eyes locked onto mine, and she let out one last soft whimper before falling silent.

“It’s like she knows you helped her,” the vet said, surprised.

Two days later, we returned to take her home. We set her up in a small den in the garage to rest and recover. CJ, as Ethan had named the husky, stayed with Vixen the fox the entire time, never leaving her side.

A few days later, Vixen gave birth to four tiny kits. It was the most amazing thing I had ever seen, and she allowed me to be a part of it.

“She only lets us near her babies,” Ethan said one day while we checked on Vixen and her kits. “She trusts us.”

I nodded, feeling proud. “And the dog too,” I added. “Little CJ seems to feel right at home with us.”

When the babies were old enough, Kyle and I knew it was time to let them go. We built a proper den for them back in the forest and watched as Vixen led her kits into it.

Now, every weekend, Ethan, CJ, and I walk to the forest to visit them. Vixen always comes out to greet us, her kits trailing behind her, just as curious as ever.

What an incredible journey it has been for our little family!
