Expecting a child is one of the most exciting times for many couples. As soon as they find out, many parents-to-be pray for the health of their unborn baby.
Olesia, a young woman from Russia, and her husband Eugen were thrilled to learn they were going to have a baby. Everything seemed to be going smoothly with the pregnancy until one day, doctors gave Olesia some heartbreaking news.
An ultrasound showed that their baby girl would have birth defects. The doctors said her internal organs were enlarged and her hands wouldn’t develop properly.
The doctors recommended terminating the pregnancy. Olesia recalled the doctor’s harsh words: “Do you understand that this is a cross you will have to carry all your life? A disabled child! People will point fingers at you! You’ll spend your life working for medicine and hoping she passes away quickly.”
Despite this, Olesia and Eugen decided to keep their baby after serious consideration. When they informed the doctors of their decision, the doctors replied, “That’s your choice. To avoid any complaints later, you should write a statement confirming you are aware of the ultrasound results.”
As the days passed, the family worried about their unborn child, but they never regretted their decision.
One cold December night, Olesia’s water broke. Eugen rushed her to the hospital and waited outside while she gave birth to their daughter.
Three hours later, baby Nadejda was born. The doctors placed her on Olesia’s chest and said she had given birth to a healthy girl. Olesia couldn’t believe what she was hearing. Hospital staff then went outside to share the good news with Eugen.
“You have a baby girl, sir! Congratulations! She is perfectly healthy.” Eugen kept hearing the word “healthy” and couldn’t believe it. He kept wondering, “Could this be true?”
The parents were overjoyed and amazed when they saw that their newborn daughter was indeed healthy and had all her physical parts.
Doctors later explained that Olesia’s large uterine fibroid, a noncancerous tumor also known as a myoma, had caused the ultrasound images to be misinterpreted. The growths had been mistaken for deformities.
Although Olesia had to undergo surgery to remove her female organs, she gave birth to a beautiful and healthy baby girl. You can see her picture below.
