Sarah Connor, 44, has had a soft spot for boyband members. Her first husband, Marc Terenzi, 45, gained fame in 1999 with the US band “Natural” and their single “Put Your Arms Around Me”. Her second husband and current manager, Florian Fischer, 49, started his career in 1996 alongside Adel Tawil, 45, in “The Boyz”. Their biggest hit? “One Minute”, which spent several weeks in the top ten in 1997.
But before Connor herself became famous, when her artist name was still Sarah Gray, she lost her heart to another boyband star who discovered her talent: Martin Scholz, 49, from “Touché”.
Sarah Connor dated “Touché” member Martin Scholz
Many might still remember the song “This Goodbye Is Not Forever” and continue singing: “I will love you forever and forever”. It’s one of the biggest hits of “Touché”, founded in 1996 and disbanded in 2004 after failing to match their early 2000s success. Their most prominent member was Karim Maataoui, 49, who drew attention for his on-off relationship with Jessica Stockmann, 57, ex-wife of former tennis star Michael Stich, 55, earning him the nickname “Karim the Kisser”.
Amidst “Touch锑s years of success, its less well-known boyband colleague Martin Scholz dated an aspiring artist who would eventually become one of Germany’s most successful singers: Sarah Marianne Corina Lewe, known then as Sarah Gray.
A demo tape to Scholz laid the groundwork for her career
The Delmenhorst native tried her luck with a demo tape at her then-famous neighbor’s, Martin Scholz, who also hails from the same area. Sarah and Martin became a couple in 1997, and she subsequently performed as the opening act for “Touché”. “The foundation of her career was laid,” reported NDR.
After their breakup in 1999, Sarah achieved her breakthrough. In 2000, she secured a record deal, changed her artist name to Sarah Connor – an homage to her Irish grandfather – and released her first hit single “Let’s Get Back To Bed – Boy!” in 2001.
Martin Scholz on breakup with Sarah Connor: “We weren’t mature enough back then”
Since then, there has been no stopping her. Even today, 25 years after their split, Martin Scholz fondly remembers his relationship with Sarah Connor. “We had a beautiful time with ups and downs,” he recently told “t-online” in an interview, adding, “Now she lives with Florian in Berlin. And that’s also all good as it is.”
He hasn’t been in touch with Sarah since then. “That connection has completely faded since then,” which Scholz finds “completely fine.” He also speaks candidly about the reasons for their former breakup, explaining, “We weren’t mature enough for a really long-term relationship back then.”
From the stage to the hair salon
Although Martin Scholz still occasionally takes to the stage, performing “Touché” songs at 90s parties, his main profession now is as a hairdresser. It’s a skill he learned and now serves as his foundation.
“This way, I also have the freedom to decide what I feel like doing. I don’t have to accept every offer,” explains the former boyband star, once linked romantically with one of the country’s biggest singers today.
