Since 2007, Whoopi Goldberg has been a familiar face on The View, a popular chat show where she serves as both host and moderator. On Wednesday, November 13, the show turned into a festive celebration as the team honored Goldberg’s 69th birthday.
The episode was filled with games, laughter, and lively discussions centered around the Oscar-winning actor. But the highlight of the show was an unexpected moment of hilarity involving a wheel of cheese.
As part of the fun, a giant wheel of cheese was brought out, featuring Goldberg’s face printed on its surface. Standing behind the cheesy masterpiece, Goldberg couldn’t help but laugh at the quirky tribute. “I always wanted my face on cheese!” her co-host Sara Haines chimed in, grinning from ear to ear.
Goldberg responded with a sly smile, “Well, I’d rather eat it occasionally.” The cheeky comment caught Haines off guard, prompting her to walk away in an exaggerated, comedic manner. The studio erupted with gasps, laughter, and cheers as the audience processed Goldberg’s playful insinuation.
Realizing the ripple effect of her joke, Goldberg tried to steer the moment back on track. Gesturing toward the cheese, she said, “Never mind! This 24-month-matured wheel of genuine Parmigiano Reggiano from Italy—now that’s something to celebrate. It’s a perfect example of Italian quality and tradition.”
Haines, still laughing but trying to maintain her composure, returned to the stage and gave Goldberg a warm hug. As the laughter subsided, Goldberg quipped, “And eat Whoopi Goldberg, if you want a chance to win a wheel like this one!” She then added with a grin, “That’s right! No, I mean, have some food!” Her wit and timing kept the audience entertained and left everyone smiling.
But this wasn’t the only story that had people talking about Whoopi. Earlier this year, she opened up about a deeply personal moment during an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers. Goldberg shared the story of scattering her mother’s ashes, an act she described as “special” but unconventional.
In her memoir, Goldberg had revealed that she learned of her mother’s passing while performing in the Sister Act musical on London’s West End. It was a devastating moment, but Goldberg wanted to honor her mother in a way that felt meaningful.
“No one should do this,” Goldberg warned as she recounted the experience on Meyers’ show. She explained that she chose to scatter her mother’s ashes at Disneyland, a place that held sentimental value. “When I was a kid, ‘It’s a Small World’ made its debut at the World’s Fair, and my mom loved it. She absolutely adored Small World.”
Goldberg went on to share the peculiar yet touching way she carried out her plan. “Sometimes, while on the Small World ride, I’d pretend to sneeze and release a little bit of her ashes. ‘Ah-choo!’” she said, mimicking the motion with a twinkle in her eye. “And then, we moved on to the flowers in Disneyland. ‘Oh, look at that,’ I’d say, and then—ah-choo!—there goes another little bit.”
The audience was equal parts amused and moved by her story. Goldberg’s ability to balance humor and heartfelt emotion left a lasting impression on those who heard it.
