On June 27, Tom responded to a user who said, “Just gorgeous both but don’t kiss him on the lips.” Tom replied, “I find it worrying that it bothers you. I will kiss my five-year-old child on the lips for as long as I deem necessary and as long as he lets me. I love him to bits, and he’s my best pal. One day, he won’t want me to, and he probably won’t want much to do with me. So, for now, I’ll carry on as I am.”

Supportive comments poured in. One fan said, “Love kisses with my kids and now my granddaughter—the people who think it’s wrong are the worry.” Another, who lost her father, said, “Absolutely ridiculous! One user’s outrageous accusation about bacteria in Tom’s mouth causing cavities in Roman elicited a quick response. In a post with nearly 123,000 likes, Tom sarcastically shared, “Wow. So I kiss my five-year-old son on the lips, and he’ll get cavities. He’ll get cavities from his daddy kissing him.” Tom then asked Roman what he thought. In early July, Tom posted a now-viral video showing him with Roman on his lap in the car. The post, with almost 579,000 likes, has Tom asking, “Roman, what do you think of people who think you shouldn’t kiss me on the lips?” Roman confidently replies, “You are all crazy. That’s my daddy!” The video ends with a sweet kiss.

Supportive comments flooded in. One person said, “Some people are just sick. He is adorable and would soon tell you when he gets older if he didn’t like it.” Another said, “We kiss on the cheeks in my culture, but I really love that father-son relationship.”
One user asked, “Do you have a problem with him kissing his son on the lips because he is a man? Because if this was his mom, I’m sure you wouldn’t.”
Tom responded, “I genuinely don’t think anything would have been said if it was a mom kissing her little boy. For some reason, when it’s a dad, something always gets said, and I don’t know why. I’m glad a woman brought this up. I really appreciate that…and I’m not changing anything.”
In another clip, Tom responded to a comment suggesting the kisses make Roman vulnerable to strangers. The commenter said, “Don’t kiss your children on the lips. Not all humans have the right intentions.”

Tom quipped, “So if I kiss my five-year-old, he’ll think it’s okay to kiss strangers. Obviously!” He added, “Let’s apply that logic. I can’t have him in my car because he might think it’s normal to get into a stranger’s car. He can’t live in my house because he might walk into a stranger’s house.”
He then proposed a sensible approach: “Or we could teach him that kissing mommy and daddy is normal, but kissing dodgy Barry down the road is a bit weird.”
Most of Tom’s online community supports him, appreciating the love he shows his son. They’re glad Tom doesn’t back down from trolls who have no right to tell him how to parent.

My parents always kissed me on the lips, & we did the same with our children, & now our grandchildren. Not at any point in time has this been a problem. When children are ready they will decide they don’t want to kiss on lips any more. My grandsons will come to me & either hug me & wait for kiss on top of head, or come towards me lips pursed for a kiss. Their decisions.
Stop making everything into being perversed, evil is in the mind of the evil doer. Teach your children right from wrong, explain the world to them, tell them about things that could happen & what to be aware of. Don’t put everyone in the same category though. Teach them love & affection on their terms.
