David Furnish and Sir Elton John have been together for over 20 years and are raising their two boys, Zachary and Elijah, with the values of humility and understanding the worth of money.
Despite having a successful career spanning over three decades, Sir Elton John, who has released thirty-two albums, wants to focus more on his family life with David Furnish and their sons.
The couple’s love story began in 1993 when John and Furnish had a brief romance that blossomed into a deep connection. John recalled feeling an immediate bond with Furnish, admiring his well-groomed and reserved demeanor. They went on a date the next day, marking the beginning of their long-term relationship.
After nine years in a civil partnership, they decided to marry in 2014, inviting friends and family through Instagram. Their sons played a special role in the ceremony as ring bearers.
Furnish and John found great joy in sharing their lives with their children, especially given the difficult journey to becoming parents. In 2009, they met a young boy named Lev at an HIV orphanage in Ukraine. Although they couldn’t adopt Lev due to government restrictions, this experience inspired John to embrace fatherhood. In 2010, their first son, Zachary, was born through a surrogate, followed by Elijah in 2013.
The couple is committed to being actively involved in their children’s lives. “We don’t want to entrust housekeepers and nannies with raising our kids,” Furnish explained. They decided to raise their sons themselves, aiming to create a happy and healthy environment.
John expressed to his sons how much they have changed his life. “You two are the best gifts I have ever received, Zachary and Elijah. You have given my life meaning and purpose and filled my heart with love,” he wrote in a touching letter.
Raising their children outside the media spotlight, John and Furnish strive to provide a sense of normalcy. They believe in teaching their kids the value of money and the importance of humility.
John stated that he does not plan to leave his entire estate to his children, aiming instead to strike a balance between providing a good life and keeping them grounded. “Giving children a silver spoon is a poor idea. It ruins their lives,” he said.
Since they were young, Zachary and Elijah have been taught to earn pocket money by doing chores. At five and three years old, they learned to divide their earnings between savings, spending, and charity. As they grew older, they took on more responsibilities, earning stars for completing tasks.
Despite their fame, John and Furnish ensure their children have normal experiences, taking them to the movies or out for pizza. John is also diligent about school pick-ups and drop-offs, cherishing these special moments with his kids.
The “Rocket Man” singer once shared a unique picture of Furnish, their sons, and their godmother, Lady Gaga, on social media, expressing his love and regret for not being in the photo himself. Fans were amazed at how much Zachary and Elijah had grown, with one commenting, “Look at these gorgeous boys and their pappa and Godma!”
John and Furnish are proud of the loving family they have built and hope their children always feel the love and support of their parents as they grow older.
