The Godfather actor, known for his strong political views, recently found himself in a heated exchange with Donald Trump supporters. Robert De Niro, never one to shy away from a fight, labeled the protesters as “gangsters.”
It all started when a bold fan yelled, “Your movies suck!” at De Niro. Here’s what happened next.
Robert De Niro, born in New York, has had a career spanning over six decades and is considered one of the greatest actors of his generation. At 80 years old, he has excelled in drama, comedy, and crime films.
He’s famous for his role as young Vito Corleone in The Godfather Part II (1974). Even the girl group Bananarama was inspired by him, creating the hit song “Robert De Niro’s Waiting” in 1984.
‘This is the time’
Recently, De Niro, a vocal Democrat, showed up outside the Manhattan courthouse where Donald Trump’s hush money trial was happening. He was there for a Joe Biden campaign event, using his star power to urge people not to support Trump in the next presidential election.
“We’ve forgotten the lessons of history that showed us other clowns who weren’t taken seriously until they became vicious dictators,” De Niro told reporters. “Now that we get a second opportunity with Trump, nobody is laughing. Now is the moment to permanently remove him from office by voting him out.”
“You guys are gangsters.”
He added, “I don’t mean to scare you. Wait, maybe I really do want to frighten you. I can guarantee you that once [Trump] is in, he won’t go.”
His comments were met with anger from a group of Trump supporters. De Niro stood his ground, saying, “You’re not going to intimidate; that’s what Trump does, to try f***ing intimidate. We must retaliate militarily.”
Jason Miller, a top campaign strategist for Trump, reportedly called De Niro “a washed-up actor.” De Niro, father of eight, shot back, “You guys are gangsters! You are gangsters!”
Among the angry crowd, someone shouted, “Robert De Niro! You’re something of a punk. You have no significance! Your motion pictures are awful.” De Niro, not one to back down, replied with a firm “F**k you” as he was led away.
It’s important to remember that celebrities are human too, and De Niro’s reaction shows he’s no different. How do you feel about De Niro’s confrontation with the hecklers outside the courthouse?
