Anthropic has released a new version of its AI model that is twice as fast and excels in software coding and text formulation.
In the race for AI software, Anthropic has launched a new version of its ChatGPT competitor Claude, doubling its speed in just three months. Product manager Michael Gerstenhaber introduced the model Claude 3.5 Sonnet, highlighting its capabilities in software code generation and text formulation during the launch on Thursday.
Anthropic aims primarily at enterprise use and seeks to establish a foothold in sectors such as legal and finance. Among its clients is the pharmaceutical giant Pfizer, which employs Claude for drug research.
Accompanying the new model, Anthropic introduces a feature called Artifacts, allowing AI-generated content to be shared and collaboratively edited among team members.
Different models for different needs
Anthropic offers three versions of Claude: Haiku, optimized for speed; Opus, focusing on intelligence; and Sonnet, positioned between these parameters. In version 3.5, Sonnet is reported by the company to be faster and more powerful than the top model Claude 3 Opus, introduced just in March. Gerstenhaber stated that Anthropic is confident in its position at the forefront of the industry.
OpenAI, Google, Meta (formerly Facebook), and startups like Anthropic are currently engaged in a competitive race to develop AI models. In May, OpenAI unveiled ChatGPT-4o, demonstrating its ability to engage in fluent conversations with humans.
