The Lesson Taryn Never Forgot
At first, living with Taryn was great. She was friendly, talkative, and always had a smile on her face. She seemed like the kind of roommate anyone would want—responsible and easy to get along with.
But little by little, I started to see the real Taryn.
It started with small things. She had a habit of asking me to pick up groceries for her whenever I went shopping. At first, it seemed harmless—just a carton of milk here, a loaf of bread there. But then, her requests became more… expensive. She wanted fancy cheeses, imported chocolates, rare exotic fruits, and premium cuts of meat.
“Don’t worry, I’ll pay you back!” she’d say with a bright, confident smile.
But the money never came.
Whenever I brought it up, she’d wave her hand and laugh it off.
“Oh, I totally forgot! I’ll get you next time, promise!”
Except “next time” never happened.
It started bothering me. It wasn’t just about the money—it was the fact that she knew what she was doing. She kept making me pay for things, knowing she wouldn’t give me a cent back.
Then, one day, she pushed it too far.
The Final Straw
Taryn decided to throw a big party. Not just any party—a fancy one. She handed me a long shopping list filled with luxury items: premium wines, caviar, artisanal bread, gourmet cheese, and an assortment of expensive snacks.
“This is going to be the party of the year!” she gushed, her eyes sparkling with excitement.
Then, with the same casual attitude, she handed me a small stack of cash.
“This should cover some of it,” she said, flipping her hair over her shoulder. “I’ll owe you for the rest, okay?”
No. Not okay.
I stared at her, feeling something inside me snap. I knew exactly what was going to happen. She’d throw her perfect party, take all the credit, and I’d never see my money again.
But this time, I wasn’t going to let her get away with it.
I smiled sweetly and said, “Of course, Taryn. I’ll take care of everything.”
And oh, I did.
The Master Plan
I went shopping, but instead of spending a fortune on the high-end items she wanted, I got creative.
For the expensive wines, I found the cheapest bottles I could, but they had fancy-looking labels. I carefully peeled off the price stickers so no one would suspect a thing.
Instead of gourmet cheese, I bought plain, pre-sliced sandwich cheese. I stacked the slices neatly and wrapped them in wax paper to make them look upscale.
Her “exotic fruits”? I dug through the discount section and grabbed the most bruised and ugly-looking ones I could find. But once I polished them up, they looked almost as good as the real deal.
And the caviar? Oh, that was my favorite part. Instead of the expensive delicacy she asked for, I bought the cheapest jar of fish roe I could find. It looked similar, but anyone with half a brain would know the difference after one bite.
When I got home, I spent hours carefully unpacking and rewrapping everything. I decanted the cheap wine into elegant glass bottles. I arranged the “gourmet” cheese and bread like a professional chef. I made everything look luxurious.
By the time I was done, it was a masterpiece.
Taryn would never suspect a thing—until it was too late.
The Party of the Year (Or Not)
That evening, Taryn was over the moon.
“Oh my God, Alex! This looks amazing!” she gushed as she admired the setup. She twirled around the room, adjusting decorations and flicking her hair dramatically.
The guests arrived, dressed in their finest outfits. They gasped at the beautifully arranged spread of food and wine. Compliments flew left and right.
Taryn basked in the praise.
“I only get the best,” she boasted, sipping her wine. “Quality is everything.”
I hid my smirk. Oh, just wait.
It started slowly.
One guest took a sip of wine and frowned. “Uh… is this a new brand?” he asked, swirling his glass and sniffing it.
Another girl picked up a piece of cheese and examined it closely. “This texture is kind of… weird?” she mumbled, giving it a hesitant nibble.
Then came the fruit. Someone bit into a slice of mango and immediately spat it out.
“Ugh, what is this? It’s full of seeds!”
And then… the final blow.
A guy scooped up a generous spoonful of “caviar,” smiling like he was about to enjoy the finest treat of the night. He popped it into his mouth, chewed, and suddenly froze.
His face twisted in confusion. Then disgust. Then realization.
“This… this isn’t caviar!” he declared loudly, holding up his spoon. “This is cheap fish eggs!“
The room went silent.
All eyes turned to Taryn.
Her face turned as red as a tomato. Her mouth opened and closed like a fish out of water.
“What? No! That’s real caviar!” she protested weakly.
But the damage was done. People started whispering. Someone snuck another sip of wine and winced. The girl with the cheese gagged dramatically and dropped her plate.
Taryn looked around, panicking. Then she turned to me.
She grabbed my arm and yanked me into the kitchen.
“What the hell, Alex?!” she hissed, her eyes burning with anger. “What did you buy?!”
I tilted my head and smiled sweetly.
“Exactly what you asked for,” I said. “Well… close enough. I mean, you never pay me back anyway, so I didn’t think you’d notice.”
Her jaw dropped. She opened her mouth to argue, but no words came out.
She had been caught.
A Lesson Learned
After the party, Taryn avoided me for a whole day. But when she finally came out of her room, she looked… different.
She walked up to me, holding an envelope, and awkwardly cleared her throat.
“Here,” she muttered, shoving it into my hands. “This is everything I owe you. For all the groceries. I, uh… I guess I deserved that.”
I raised an eyebrow. “Really? No excuses this time?”
She sighed. “Yeah. I get it. I was being… kind of a jerk.”
From that day on, she never asked me to buy her groceries again. She did her own shopping, paid for her own things, and never tried to trick me into covering her bills.
The lesson?
If you want a luxurious life, pay for it yourself.
And for me? I learned that sometimes, the best revenge is simply letting someone taste their own medicine.
