When Jess and Michael got engaged, Jess’s cousin, Sarah, made an offer that seemed like a beautiful gift. Sarah said she’d sew Jess’s wedding dress. Jess thought it was an incredibly sweet gesture, but when she finally tried on the dress, it was two sizes too small! Now Jess had a decision to make—would Sarah fix the mistake, or would she have to find a way to solve it herself?
The truth was, Jess’s relationship with Sarah had always been tricky. Sarah was the loud, bubbly one who loved attention. Growing up, it was easier for the family to let Sarah steal the spotlight, while Jess stayed in the background, unnoticed.
But when Jess got engaged to Michael after four wonderful years together, she was beyond thrilled. For once, her family seemed genuinely happy for her, and even Sarah threw a girls’ night out to celebrate Jess being the first to get engaged.
At the party, Sarah, holding a glass of champagne, bounced over to Jess with excitement written all over her face.
“Jess! I have the best idea!” Sarah said with a big grin.
Curious, Jess asked, “What is it?”
“I want to make your wedding dress for you!” Sarah beamed, swaying slightly to the rhythm of the music playing in the background.
Jess felt touched. Despite their complicated past, Sarah was a talented seamstress, and this felt like a kind and meaningful gesture. It made the wedding feel even more special.
“Really? You’d do that for me?” Jess asked, surprised but genuinely moved.
“Of course! It’ll be perfect!” Sarah replied enthusiastically, her smile bright and sincere.
That night felt magical, and for the first time in a long time, Jess thought that maybe she and Sarah were finally on the same page. The weeks that followed were full of excitement as they browsed through wedding magazines, picking out fabrics and designing Jess’s dream dress together. Everything seemed to be falling into place, like a fairy tale coming true.
One day, Jess met Sarah at her studio for the final measurements before Sarah would start sewing the dress. Sarah was careful and precise as she took the measurements, all the while chatting happily about how amazing the dress was going to be.
“You’re going to look stunning,” Sarah said confidently.
Jess smiled, feeling a rush of excitement. “I hope so. I’ve been really careful with my diet, and I’m finally happy with my weight. I just want to keep it this way until the big day.”
Sarah gave her a warm smile. “You look great, Jess. If anything changes, just let me know, and we can do another fitting.”
Jess left the studio excited to see the final dress. But when the day for the last fitting arrived, her excitement quickly turned to horror.
Jess stepped into the dress, but it wouldn’t zip up. It was way too small!
Sarah watched with a raised eyebrow. “Jess, have you gained weight before the wedding?” she asked, her tone filled with fake concern.
Jess felt her heart drop. Her wedding was just two weeks away, and she suddenly had no dress.
“I haven’t gained any weight,” Jess said, feeling panic rising in her chest. “If anything, I’ve lost some because of all the stress.”
Sarah shrugged, her expression uncaring. “Well, I’ll try to fix it, but I’ve got other clients with deadlines too. I can’t promise anything.”
As Jess drove home, Sarah’s words echoed in her head. Something about the whole situation felt off. The smirk on Sarah’s face, the way she said things—it seemed like this wasn’t just a mistake. It felt like Sarah had done it on purpose.
That evening, Jess vented her frustration to Michael, still unsure of what to do.
“Show me the dress,” Michael suggested as he poured himself a glass of water.
Jess shook her head. “No! It’s bad luck for you to see it before the wedding!”
Michael smiled, unfazed. “Okay, then why don’t you take it to Mrs. Lawson? She’s a friend of my mom’s and has done wonders with dress alterations. Maybe she can help.”
Taking his advice, Jess hurried to Mrs. Lawson’s place with the too-tight dress in hand. Mrs. Lawson was a retired seamstress known for her skill and experience.
When Mrs. Lawson saw the dress, she gave Jess a kind smile. “Oh, honey, Michael told me all about it. Don’t worry, I’ve handled worse situations than this.”
Together, they reworked the dress, transforming it into something completely new. Instead of the long, traditional gown Jess had originally imagined, they turned it into a chic, short, cocktail-style dress. It was bold, unconventional, and most importantly, it was perfect for Jess.
On the wedding day, Jess stood in the bridal suite, staring at herself in the mirror. She felt beautiful. Her dad walked into the room, and his eyes widened with pride.
“My darling, you look incredible,” he said, his voice filled with emotion.
Jess smiled at her reflection, feeling a surge of confidence. “Thanks, Dad. It’s not the dress we planned, but it’s perfect.”
Her dad smiled back. “That’s all that matters,” he said, offering her his arm as the wedding music began to play.
As Jess walked down the aisle, she felt the eyes of the guests on her, admiration shining in their gazes. When she finally reached Michael at the altar, his face lit up with love and amazement. In that moment, Jess knew that he was falling in love with her all over again.
Before the ceremony began, Jess couldn’t resist taking a quick glance at Sarah. Sarah’s face was pale with shock. She clearly hadn’t expected Jess to turn things around. She had probably been waiting to see Jess humiliated, but instead, Jess was glowing with happiness and confidence.
The ceremony was flawless, and when Michael recited his vows, Jess couldn’t hold back her tears. The love and joy in the room was overwhelming, and she knew without a doubt that she was marrying the right man.
At the reception, while Jess and Michael mingled with the guests, Sarah cornered Jess.
“Jess, what happened to the dress? Where’s my original design?” Sarah asked, trying to hide her confusion.
Jess smiled sweetly. “I took your design and made it better. Remember? You said you weren’t sure if you could fix it, and it was way too small for me.”
“So, you just threw away all my hard work?” Sarah snapped, frustration creeping into her voice.
“No, Sarah,” Jess replied calmly. “Your work was the foundation for this dress. But it’s a hundred times better now, thanks to Mrs. Lawson, who wanted me to feel beautiful on my wedding day.”
Sarah stood there, speechless, while guests continued to gush over how unique and stunning Jess’s dress was. She had no choice but to listen.
Across the room, Michael called out, “Come on, love! It’s time for our first dance, and then I’m hitting the buffet!”
Jess laughed, her heart full of joy and contentment. Finally, everything was as it should be.
