Actor Mel Gibson recently made some surprising and controversial comments about the wildfires that devastated Los Angeles, and his perspective has left many people confused and shocked.
Gibson, known for his role in Mad Max, lost his luxurious Malibu home, worth a staggering £12 million, to the deadly fires. But instead of focusing solely on the loss, Gibson sparked a massive reaction by sharing his suspicions about how the fires started. His comments raised eyebrows, with many wondering if he was suggesting something more sinister was at play.
In an interview with Fox News’ Laura Ingraham on The Ingraham Angle, Gibson revealed his thoughts. “I can dream up all kinds of terrible scenarios in my mind—conspiracy theories and the like—but it just felt a bit too convenient that there was no water,” he said.
“And that the wind conditions were ideal and there are individuals ready, willing, and capable of starting fires.” He went on to suggest that the destruction could have been planned to clear valuable land and make way for something else.
Gibson’s theory only gained momentum after reports emerged about a suspect being arrested in connection with one of the fires. The actor couldn’t help but wonder whether the person who started the blaze was working alone or if they were part of a larger plan.
“Some of these people they’re catching seem to be very well-prepared,” Gibson remarked, hinting that something more organized could be behind the wildfires.
The actor didn’t stop there. He continued to share his suspicions, making even bolder claims. “I’m aware that they’ve been interfering with water supplies, releasing reserves for various reasons,” he said.
“They’ve been doing this for some time. California has numerous issues that are difficult to understand when it comes to decision-making.” His comments made it sound as though there might be an intentional effort to make the fires worse.
“Do they want the state emptied out?” Gibson asked, sounding uncertain but deeply curious. “I don’t know. It’s a crazy thought, but it makes you question whether there’s a purpose behind it. If there is, what could that purpose be?” His words hinted at a much larger conspiracy at play, one that many people weren’t ready to accept.
Gibson wasn’t alone in his speculation, though. Laura Ingraham joined in, adding that there had been whispers about plans for high-density housing developments in areas heavily affected by the wildfires.

Gibson took this idea further, comparing the situation to “old cattle barons driving people off the land.” His metaphor suggested that there might be wealthy or powerful people with an interest in removing those who lived in these areas.
Naturally, Gibson’s comments sparked heated debate. Many people didn’t agree with his views, and some criticized him sharply. “Conspiracy theories seem to be his last attempt at relevance,” one Twitter user wrote, expressing frustration with the actor’s comments.
Another user added, “While Californians are battling fires, these two are busy stirring the pot.” A third person called his comments “shameful,” showing just how deeply the actor’s words had divided people.
In contrast, others seemed to find merit in his perspective, though the majority of people disagreed. Gibson’s theory about the fires was so out there that it became difficult for some to see it as anything more than an unfounded conspiracy. Nevertheless, the public response was mixed, with many still questioning what truly caused the wildfires.
