When we share our lives online, we open ourselves up to both love and judgment from the world.
Matt and Brittany Montgomery know this all too well. They love posting pictures of themselves together, but not everyone is kind. They’ve faced negativity and criticism, but instead of letting it affect them, they’ve shown the world a powerful lesson in standing by what you believe in.
Matt and Brittany’s love story might sound simple – they met, fell in love, and started building their life together. But there’s one key detail that sets their story apart: Matt is much larger than Brittany, and people can’t seem to stop commenting on it.
Brittany has struggled her whole life to feel like she belongs. Growing up, she didn’t feel safe with her controlling parents. Their conversations left her feeling drained and unworthy. As a result, she began to dislike her body and feel like she wasn’t good enough.
As a plus-size woman, Brittany faced two kinds of men: those who wanted her to lose weight and those who were only interested in her curves. After so many bad relationships, she thought about giving up on love entirely.
But fate had different plans! In August 2020, Brittany met Matt online. Although their bodies were very different, their connection was instant.
“I was a bit hesitant at first,” Brittany admitted. “I’ve been in relationships where guys told me they’d leave if I didn’t lose weight. It really hurt my confidence, and at one point, I did start working out and trying to change my size.”
But despite her fears, Brittany and Matt fell in love, and their bond grew stronger. When Matt proposed on January 30, 2022, they started planning their future together without hesitation.
They’re completely comfortable with each other, but they’ve also talked about how others view their relationship. When asked about the comments on his Instagram, Matt shared, “People comment on Instagram and suggest that I’m not big enough or man enough for her.” He added, “I do notice people staring when we walk down the street…”
Despite the negativity, Matt and Brittany are undeterred. They know their love is real, and that’s all that matters to them.
Matt has had relationships with women who fit society’s idea of “normal size,” but those never worked out. The way Brittany makes him feel is something he’s never experienced before, and he’s sure she’s his soulmate. He loves her for who she is and goes out of his way to make her feel loved and appreciated.
“You are worthy, you are deserving of infinite love every single day and more,” Matt recently told Brittany. “The way I look at you and feel for you, and the way you look and feel for me, is how I know we are meant to be.”
Matt even posted a picture of them together, alongside some of the rude comments people have made about other couples. It was his way of showing the world just how deep their love runs. What a powerful response to the naysayers!
Matt and Brittany are on a mission to normalize relationships between people of different sizes. Brittany said, “I wish mixed-weight relationships were more common and seen as the norm.”
Last month, the couple shared the exciting news that they’re expecting their second child, Lakelyn, in September 2023. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for them!
Love doesn’t follow any rules, and happiness isn’t found in anyone else’s expectations. We should all find ways to embrace and love one another, no matter what.
