Following the publication of photos featuring King Frederik and Genoveva Casanova, persistent rumors of an affair circulated. The Mexican celebrity filed a lawsuit months ago against the responsible Spanish magazine, which has now been permitted to proceed.
In early November, the Spanish gossip magazine “Lecturas” published images showing King Frederik, 56, together with former Mexican model Genoveva Casanova, 47, during his visit to Madrid. Later reports suggested that the Danish royal had stayed overnight at her apartment. The rumors of an affair never subsided, even after Frederik ascended to the throne in January of this year following his mother Queen Margrethe, 84. A month later, the celebrity filed a lawsuit against the Spanish publication. A judge has now allowed the lawsuit to proceed.
Genoveva Casanova Sues Magazine Over Photos with King Frederik
Casanova emphasized in February 2024 that the publication of the photos constituted an invasion of her privacy, prompting her legal action against the magazine. The lawsuit spans 400 pages and was filed by the Mexican celebrity along with her ex-husband Cayetano Martínez de Irujo, 61. Journalist Beatriz Cortázar detailed the lawsuit on the program “Y ahora Sonsoles,” revealing that the requested sum exceeds one million euros, as reported by the newspaper “La Razón.”
Cortázar assures that the lawsuit has been admitted for processing and stresses that court costs will also be added to the sum. “Genoveva is very committed to the lawsuit and is supported by Cayetano,” she explains, adding, “It’s a very weighty case, where Genoveva is also taking a risk, because if she loses, she will incur high costs.”
“We are friends and the photos prove nothing”
From the outset, Casanova made it clear that her relationship with Frederik is purely platonic. “I want to make it very clear that I have no relationship with him, as has been clearly stated. We are friends and the photos prove nothing. Except for those who distort the images and see something that isn’t there. We have mutual friends, and I don’t go around telling people who my friends are,” she said in a statement obtained by “Hola” among others. Whether Genoveva Casanova will prevail in court against the magazine remains to be seen.
