For the past several years, Jelly Roll—whose real name is Jason Bradley DeFord—and Bunnie Xo (also known as Alisa DeFord) have been open about their struggles with addiction. They’ve shared their journey to sobriety with fans on social media, showing just how far they’ve come.
Jelly Roll, who credits his children Bailee, 15, and Noah, 7, from previous relationships, and his wife Bunnie for keeping him grounded, told People magazine, “Family is everything.”
The Nashville-born singer reflected on how being a father changed his life, saying, “The single most impactful event of my entire life was having my daughter. It changed everything.” Jelly Roll, who was serving time for crack cocaine when Bailee was born, also spoke about the incredible influence Bunnie has had on his life.
“A lot is often said or made about my story, but the truth is, I’ve never been moved more by a story than the story of my wife,” he shared in a touching Facebook post titled “Bunnie appreciation.”
He talked about Bunnie’s difficult past, including an abusive relationship, and how her resilience has inspired him from the moment they met. “To watch what this woman has overcome and her passion and determination to be something better has inspired me from the moment I met her…
She saved me in one of the darkest times of my life.
She has been nothing but supportive,” he continued. He ended the post by saying, “Let’s keep changing the world a little at a time.”
Fast forward to a year later, and Bunnie Xo, the host of the Dumb Blonde podcast, revealed on Snapchat (via Country Now) that a recent MRA (Magnetic Resonance Angiography) suggested she might have “an internal carotid artery aneurysm.”
“It can’t be ruled out,” the 44-year-old model shared with her followers. “It’s not confirmed, it’s not denied.” Bunnie explained that she would need to see a vascular neurosurgeon and undergo more tests to figure out exactly what’s going on.
“I’m really fing scared and stressed out about it, but I know God’s got me, dude,” she said, adding that she spent the last hour crying and praying, saying, “He didn’t bring me this far to just fing bring me this far. I got a lot of s*** I got to do still.”
On July 23, Bunnie posted on Facebook that she was “up early for an MRI/MRA” and determined to push through her claustrophobia to get through the tests. In the days that followed, Bunnie continued to update her fans on social media, often expressing her love and appreciation for Jelly Roll, who has been her rock through this tough time.
She shared a sweet photo of the two of them kissing, captioned, “The safest of spaces,” showing just how much she relies on her husband’s support.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity of waiting, Bunnie shared the news everyone was hoping for: “[The doctor] told me he does not think that it is an aneurysm. He told me that I am cleared, that he thinks it’s an artifact, and he also thinks that, in six months whenever I come back to re-test and do another CT scan, that he will be able to prove that it is an artifact.”
For those who aren’t familiar, the Radiological Society of North America explains that an artifact in medical imaging can be caused by various factors, including software issues, hardware malfunctions, or even the patient’s movement during the scan.
Fans were quick to flood the comments section of Bunnie’s Facebook update, sharing their relief and support. “This is good news! Thank you for sharing so much with us. Your transparency is healing to many,” one fan commented.
Another added, “I had an aneurysm scare last fall as well, the relief when the doctors cleared me was indescribable!” Others shared their own stories of loved ones affected by aneurysms and stressed the importance of regular check-ups.
A few days later, Bunnie reflected on the experience in another post, expressing her gratitude for life. “I tell you what, this health scare put so much in perspective for me. It honestly made me want to change a lot of things in my life.”
She went on to share how touched she was by her husband’s love and support, saying, “Even my husband texting me last night saying, ‘You’re my best friend.’
Brought me to tears. You don’t realize how much you appreciate life & the ppl in it until you feel like you could lose it & them at any moment.”
