Last night, Ingrid Andress gave a stunning performance of the national anthem at the MLB Home Run Derby, leaving the audience in awe.
Many viewers thought her rendition was either the best or the worst ever. One fan tweeted, “Wow! @IngridAndress actually did it, she united America #HRDerby.”
The Grammy-nominated artist kicked off the event at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, with her powerful take on “The Star Spangled Banner.” From the very first note, it was clear this performance would be unforgettable.
Take a listen yourself and see what you think.
After she sang, opinions poured in from all sides. Some compared her to Fergie’s infamous 2018 NBA All-Star Game performance, with one person tweeting, “I think we all owe Fergie an apology.” Another chimed in, “Made Fergie sound like Whitney Houston.”
But not everyone was impressed. One harsh critic wrote, “Worst National Anthem I’ve ever heard. Just disrespectful.” Another suggested, “I hope Ingrid Andress stays off of social media for a while.”
A disappointed fan added, “I’m so sorry, I’m sure Ingrid Andress is a wonderful person, but that was one of the worst national anthems I’ve ever heard.”
It’s no secret that “The Star Spangled Banner” is a tough song to sing. Maybe venues should consider playing a recorded version of a classic performance, like Whitney Houston’s, to avoid any future embarrassments.
