Jessica Alba is going through an emotional rollercoaster that only parents can truly understand as they watch their children grow up. A milestone involving her 16-year-old daughter made the actress particularly emotional.
For Jessica Alba, 42, it was a small shock when she realized that her daughter Honor, 16, was suddenly taller than she was. She shared this moment on Instagram about four years ago. Now she reveals how she felt about this surprising discovery.
Jessica Alba Surpassed by Daughter Honor
“The moment you realize your first baby is taller than you,” the actress wrote on Instagram at the time, accompanying a photo showing her tearfully hugging Honor. In a second picture, mother and daughter stand back-to-back, making it clear that Honor had outgrown her mother by a few centimeters. It was an extremely emotional moment for the mother of three.
“Okay, it was during Covid, and our friends were visiting, and they were expecting a baby, and he said, ‘Honor is taller than you,’ and I said, ‘No, she’s not!’,” the 42-year-old now recalls in an interview with “People.” The friend then asked them to stand back-to-back. “And he took this photo, and I just started crying.”
The thought of her little daughter slowly becoming a young adult still seems to make her highly emotional. “I remember thinking, Oh my God, you’re taller than me,” she reveals and adds, “I get teary-eyed just thinking about it.”
“It Was So Terrible”
Her “baby” had grown up so quickly before her eyes, she explains the reason for her feelings. “It was so terrible,” she admits, “because I thought, this is my baby, how can she be taller than me? It was hard to digest.” One truly understands time when they see “a little human go from a blob who can’t talk or do anything useful except look cute to a person with their own opinions,” says the “Trigger Warning” star. “And suddenly they say, ‘No, Mom, you can’t plan my 16th birthday.’,” Alba laughs before exclaiming, “What do you mean? I brought you into this world, it’s my birthday too.”
She has since gotten used to her daughter’s height, especially since Honor has grown even more since then. “Now she’s about 1.70 m tall, so much taller than me. Now she rests her elbow on my shoulder and says, ‘Hey Mom.’ I say, ‘Don’t do that. I’m still your boss. I’m responsible for you, kid.'” Jessica Alba’s conclusion, which most mothers can probably relate to: “It sucks. It’s great, but it sucks.”
Besides Honor, Jessica Alba and her husband Cash Warren, 45, have a daughter Haven, 12, and a son Hayes, 6. Fortunately, it will probably be a while before Hayes surpasses her in height.
