Maria had planned everything down to the last detail. She told her husband, Tom, that she’d be out of town on his birthday, making him think they would celebrate later. The night before the big day, she even pretended to head to the airport but secretly stayed at her friend Karen’s house, determined to make sure everything went perfectly.
