There’s a well-known saying: “Don’t judge a book by its cover.” This saying reminds us that what we see on the outside doesn’t always tell the whole story.
Sometimes, people need a little nudge to remember this important lesson. One such reminder comes from the life of a father named Richard Huff, who challenges our ideas about appearances and family.
Richard is a 51-year-old man with a unique way of expressing himself. He has over 240 tattoos covering 85% of his body! To some, his face tattoos might look intimidating, and because of this, many people have unfairly judged him as a bad father. But wait until you hear what his wife has to say—it’s a twist that no one saw coming!
Richard loves tattoos. He calls himself an “ink addict.” For him, each tattoo is a piece of art that tells a story. He started his tattoo journey on his legs and has worked his way up.
“It became an addiction,” Richard explains. “I want to be 100% covered in tattoos probably within the next four years. I don’t know if it’s the pain or the artwork that you put on you, but it just becomes fascinating when you’re able to do this.”
Richard is not alone in his journey; he has a loving wife named Marita and five children. Marita often shares videos and photos of their family online, showcasing their happy moments together. However, not everyone appreciates their family life. Many viewers leave negative comments about Richard’s appearance, claiming he looks scary.
His daughter even mentioned how some kids at school find him frightening. “They say, ‘Ah, it’s a bit scary,’ and I say, ‘No, my dad is not scary; he is good with tattoos,’” she said proudly. Richard wants everyone to know that their family is “no different” from any other family out there, despite the way he looks.
Marita, who has three children from previous relationships, initially felt nervous about Richard. “I did judge Richard based on his looks at first,” she admitted.
“But as I got to know him a little bit, I realized he is actually a big-hearted person.” She often talks about how loving and supportive Richard is, saying, “He loves me in a way no one before him has.”
Richard is an involved father. He participates in the PTA and goes to all of his kids’ events. “I want to be there for my kids,” he says. Despite his caring nature, some people still criticize him. One comment read, “I’m not against tattoos, but I mean honestly, does he really need tattoos on his face like that?”
But there are also defenders of Richard. One supporter said, “Everyone keeps talking about his face tattoo. He likes it. He got it. He’s a good father. Let him be.”
Richard himself has a strong opinion about the negative comments. “If somebody can make negative comments like that, there’s something wrong with them themselves that they would have to judge somebody else,” he remarked.
“This is what we did, and we’re happy. We’ve been together six years, our kids are happy, and to us, that’s all that matters.”
Richard believes that his tattoos do not scare his children or make him a bad father. “It makes my kids get a different perspective on life,” he explained. He wants the world to see that love and family come in all shapes and sizes, and that includes his colorful tattoos.
