Highly anticipated: The docuseries “Kaulitz & Kaulitz”. The show offers intimate insights into the private lives of twins Bill and Tom Kaulitz.
Fans of the band Tokio Hotel are eagerly awaiting the Netflix docuseries “Kaulitz & Kaulitz”. Starting June 25, the streamer will present eight episodes offering intimate glimpses into the lives of possibly Germany’s most famous twins – Bill and Tom Kaulitz, aged 34.
Tom Kaulitz: “We were overwhelmed by the public”
The reality show takes viewers, among other places, to Los Angeles, where the Kaulitz brothers have built a new life after practically fleeing from Germany. “In Germany, Tokio Hotel was polarizing for a long time, so it just didn’t work. And shortly before we moved to America, it wasn’t good at all,” recalls Bill Kaulitz of that time. His twin Tom agrees, adding, “We were overwhelmed by the public.”
However, moving to Los Angeles saved them, as Bill notes. In the city of the rich and famous, the brothers lead a glamorous life, relying on American friends they have mostly known since moving to the USA, and they celebrate lavish parties, such as an elaborate theme party with the theme of aliens in the desert near L.A. for Bill and Tom’s 34th birthday.
Bill Kaulitz’s quest for true love
Throughout “Kaulitz & Kaulitz,” it becomes clear how differently the lives of the two Kaulitz twins have evolved recently. “Tom leads the typical bourgeois life, just a bit bigger,” observes Bill Kaulitz about his brother’s married and family life with supermodel Heidi Klum, 51, and their children. Bill, on the other hand, who describes himself as romantic, has not yet found true love. “My major relationships in life have always been with heterosexual men, and that’s why I’m still single,” he laughs in the Netflix program. In Los Angeles, he can therefore do as he pleases. So, in “Kaulitz & Kaulitz,” we see Bill scrolling through the dating app Raya, though he reveals he has never actually met anyone through the exclusive flirt portal.
“I know I have a problem with liking assholes. But assholes naturally have something. They naturally have a certain attraction,” he explains about his preferred type of men. His brother considers this a “weird quirk. If you treat Bill badly, you stand a good chance that he will like you.”
Heidi Klum understands their special relationship
Top model Heidi Klum has turned both Kaulitz twins’ lives upside down, as becomes evident in “Kaulitz & Kaulitz”. For instance, Tom Kaulitz no longer lives under the same roof with his brother Bill for the first time in his life due to his wife. “Bill and Heidi are also very close, and it wouldn’t work any other way,” Tom Kaulitz notes about his twin’s special relationship with his wife.
Bill agrees, saying, “Heidi was the first to understand right from the start what kind of relationship Tom and I have, and that she’s marrying a twin.” Heidi Klum sees only positive sides to this. “Two for the price of one, I like it,” says the 51-year-old in the Netflix program.
Bill and Tom at the dermatologist
However, “Kaulitz & Kaulitz” also shows completely different aspects away from the glamorous life. For example, Bill Kaulitz reveals that the previous year, “I had a precancerous stage that was very dangerous and had to be removed from my back as soon as possible,” as the camera zooms in on a clearly visible scar. “It emotionally took a toll on me.” During another visit to the dermatologist, which the cameras accompany in “Kaulitz & Kaulitz,” fortunately, nothing is found this time.
