Carrie Underwood and her husband, Mike Fisher, are a popular couple on the red carpet. They’ve appeared together at some of the world’s biggest award shows, including the Grammys, CMA Awards, and American Music Awards.
People can’t get enough of how cute the retired hockey player and the country music star look together.
One event where Fisher is always seen supporting his wife is the CMT Music Awards. He was there with Underwood in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2018, and 2019.
Award shows changed a bit after the pandemic, but Fisher was back with his amazing wife in 2022.
But during the 2023 CMT Awards in Austin, Texas, on April 2, Fisher was missing. What happened?
Don’t worry, there’s no trouble between Mike Fisher and Carrie Underwood. He chose to stay home to support his wife, who was nominated for both Female Video of the Year and Video of the Year at the 2023 CMT Awards.
When asked where her husband was, the “Hate My Heart” singer said, “He’s on dad duty for the evening.”
“My partner is taking care of the kids. He usually keeps things running while I’m at events like these,” she said, mentioning their three boys. She seemed to be thinking of them even while she was away.
This year’s award show was different from the past because it was held in Texas instead of Nashville, where country music thrives and where Underwood and Fisher live in the suburb of Franklin. The award show moved to Texas in November 2022.
Underwood looked stunning in a rhinestone two-piece outfit that would make any Best Dressed list. It seemed she was making the most of her time in Texas, away from her sons.
Carrie Underwood and Mike Fisher try to keep their two children, Jacob and Isaiah, out of the spotlight. Last year, they decided not to bring the kids on tour to keep their routine normal.
“They are not coming with me this time,” Underwood told ET Canada. “My oldest child is in school, and education is our top priority. We want their lives to be as normal as possible.”
Underwood praised Fisher for being a hands-on parent, which allows her to focus on her career. “I think of myself as very lucky,” she said. “I have to brag a little about my hubby. He understands it. When I’m not here, he keeps everything under control. I never have to worry about lunches not packed or dirty laundry.”
Fisher has always wanted to be a dad. Before Isaiah was born in 2015, he told The Tennessean how excited he was to become a father.
“Many say it’s impossible to explain until it happens, and then it’s the greatest thing ever,” he said. “I’m just thinking about how I can be the best father I can be.”
Although Mike Fisher and Carrie Underwood seem like the perfect pair now, it wasn’t always this way. Underwood initially doubted her ability to be a good mother, while Fisher always wanted to be a loving parent.
In the documentary “Mike and Carrie: God & Country,” Underwood said, “I’ve never been great with other people’s children. Why would I be terrific with one of my own?” She added that having a family wasn’t always her top priority.
“I don’t think I ever thought about getting married and starting a family,” she said. “I can play well alone.” Fisher, on the other hand, always wanted a family.
“I was raised with my three siblings. My parents were amazing. And I think that’s all I ever wanted,” he said. “I wanted to be the best father I could be, like my dad, and have a wife like my mom.”
In the end, everything worked out well for Underwood and Fisher. They now live in the country with their two children. After Isaiah was born, Underwood’s perspective on parenthood changed dramatically.
“It has changed the kind of person I am. Now I feel better. I’m in a better mood most of the time,” she said in a Redbook Mag interview. “I’m totally smitten!”
