From a young age, it’s important for children to learn to respect their country. They need to understand the sacrifices made by brave people who fought for the freedoms we enjoy today.
One way to show this respect is by standing up during the National Anthem. Sadly, not many young people do this anymore.
Before 1931, The Star-Spangled Banner was already a well-known song, but it became the official national anthem that year. For those unfamiliar with its history, the lyrics come from a poem called The Defence of Fort M’Henry, written by Francis Scott Key in 1814.
Key wrote the poem after he saw British ships bombing Fort McHenry in Baltimore during the War of 1812. After the battle, he noticed the American flag still waving proudly, and it inspired him to write the words we now sing proudly as Americans.
Today, The Star-Spangled Banner is performed at sports games and important events to remind us that, no matter our race, religion, or political beliefs, we are all united as Americans.
Singing this anthem is not easy—the music and lyrics make it a tough song to perform. That’s why it’s usually sung by professionals or played as a recording.
But one special performance came from a 10-year-old boy named Jadon Perez. His family and friends already knew he had an amazing voice, but now the whole world does!
Jadon is popular on TikTok, but he recently became even more famous after a video of him singing the national anthem went viral. The video was recorded at a golf tournament fundraiser, where Jadon showed off his incredible talent.
Before he sang, the announcer said, “I want him to come try out for The Voice, that’s how good this little boy is!”
Jadon’s performance left everyone in awe. The audience was emotional, and even the adults couldn’t stop talking about how beautiful his voice was. He received tons of praise for his stunning performance.
One person commented under the video, “I’m a 75-year-old retired army vet who served twice in South Vietnam and in Desert Storm. Just hearing this young man with this gift made me appreciate what this country is all about. God bless you, young man, and may your life be full of much joy and happiness.”
