Countess Alexandra will celebrate her 60th birthday on June 30, 2024. To mark this milestone, the ex-wife of Prince Joachim gave a new interview and revealed surprising insights about her future and private life.
In January 2024, Countess Alexandra of Frederiksborg, 60, withdrew from the public eye. The former daughter-in-law of Queen Margrethe, 84, has faced challenging years. However, the mother of two has made peace with her past, as she makes clear in an interview with the Danish magazine “Billed Bladet.” Her eldest son, Count Nikolai, 24, recently celebrated his master’s degree, and Count Felix, 21, seems to have found his path at the Copenhagen Business School after several changes of mind.
Countess Alexandra Feels Free: “I Want to Enjoy Meeting New People”
“I have been there for many others over the years, and now I have the opportunity to be more selfish and just date and enjoy meeting new people,” Alexandra explains in her conversation with “Billed Bladet.” She adds, “There are many wonderful people out there that I want to get to know.”
The past few years have been far from easy for Alexandra. As recently as January 2023, she was embroiled in a bitter legal battle with her ex-husband Martin Jørgensen, 46. In February, it became known that her partner Nicolai Peitersen had cheated on her. Additionally, the title scandal that has shaken the Danish royal family since September 2022 likely affected Alexandra’s mood.
Although she divorced Prince Joachim, 55, in 2005, her sons Nikolai and Felix also had to relinquish their prince titles. Today, the countess has no problem speaking openly about her experiences—both the good and the bad. “I am sure that there are others who feel exactly like I do,” she explains her decisions, “and if others can mirror and use my experiences, that’s fine with me.”
Marriage Number 3? Alexandra “Does Not Rule It Out At All”
The countess has been through two failed marriages and a relationship that ended with a betrayal of trust. Not a great track record for her love life—but the 60-year-old is undeterred. “Marriage still means something to me. It would be great, but it means less as I get older,” she admits, adding, “If my partner does not want to get married, that’s not the most important thing for me anymore. It’s no secret that I won’t have any more children, so there’s no reason to burden each other as partners.” But, “I still believe in marriage and having a document for each other. I do not rule it out at all.”
Whether she is currently in a relationship, Countess Alexandra does not reveal. In May, she said about her love life, “There is always something going on, but nothing serious yet.”
