LSU’s Tiger Girls Dazzle with a Michael Jackson Tribute!
The Tiger Girls dance team from Louisiana State University (LSU) has taken the internet by storm with an unforgettable performance of Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal.”
This incredible routine helped them win their fourth title at the prestigious Universal Dance Association Hip Hop Competition, often called the “Super Bowl of Dance.”
At the 2024 competition held in sunny Orlando, Florida, the Tiger Girls delivered a stunning tribute to the King of Pop. They mixed classic dance moves with exciting new twists, showcasing the legendary choreography that made Michael Jackson famous.
A Stylish Performance
Dressed in eye-catching white satin suits, sparkling ties, Nike sneakers, and classic fedoras, the Tiger Girls looked like they had stepped right out of a Michael Jackson music video! Their stylish outfits perfectly matched the energy of their performance, and they executed “Smooth Criminal” flawlessly.
The song, which was released in 1988 as part of Jackson’s “Bad” album, is known for its catchy beats and challenging dance moves.
Head coach Kandace Hale shared her excitement about the song choice, saying, “It’s a classic,” and added that the “team is obsessed with Michael Jackson.” She knew right away that they had to honor him with their dance.
Electric Energy on Stage
The LSU dancers are famous for their incredible rhythm and energy, and they didn’t disappoint this time. Every moment of their performance was filled with electrifying moves.
One of the most exciting parts of the routine was when the entire team lined up in a sharp diagonal formation, perfectly executing Jackson’s famous hip thrusts in sync. It was a moment that had the crowd cheering!
The choreographers, Carsen Lowe and Sammy McFadden, reflected on the challenge of taking on such an iconic artist.
In an Instagram post, they wrote, “To be faced with the challenge to take on an icon such as Michael and bring his essence and star power into the present day is hands down the most difficult path we could have picked.”
They went on to say, “But with the village that is this team, the choreographers, consultants, and coaches, we know we have no choice but to aim for the highest form of excellence.”
Fans Go Wild!
Fans were blown away by the performance, praising the team for their “untouchable precision” and calling it “un-freaking-believable.” One excited fan commented, “I can’t stop watching this routine. I am completely addicted!!”
Another fan declared, “Whoever choreographed this routine deserves a Grammy,” while a third added, “I got chills watching this. Absolutely amazing!”
In addition to the applause from fans, Coach Hale expressed pride in her team’s victory. She said, “Our theme this year was being ‘undeniably us.’ In today’s world, it’s like everybody wants to be everybody else.
We wanted to try to do what we do best.” This commitment to authenticity shone through in their performance, making it even more special.
