Childless Woman Returns from a Business Trip a Day Early and Finds a Baby in Her House – Story of the Day

After a long business trip to New York, Alicia was finally back home in Miami. She was so tired but excited to see her husband, Luke, and rest in their cozy bed. It had been a whole month since she left, and though they talked all the time on the phone, it felt like forever. “Never again,” she thought, stepping quietly inside the house. It was late at night, and she didn’t want to wake Luke—she wanted to surprise him in the morning.

She carefully took off her jacket and tiptoed toward their bedroom. The moonlight shining through the window gave her just enough light to see. Luke was there, lying in bed, softly snoring. Alicia smiled and quickly changed into her pajamas, feeling relieved to finally be home.

But then—her heart skipped a beat. Right next to Luke, on her side of the bed, was a tiny baby wrapped up in a soft blanket. There was even a pillow placed carefully on the edge so the baby wouldn’t roll off. Alicia froze. They didn’t have children. Where did this baby come from? Her mind raced. Luke had grown up in an orphanage, so the baby couldn’t be a niece or nephew. What was happening here?

She stepped closer and gently shook Luke’s arm. “Luke! Luke! Wake up!” Her voice was low but trembling with shock. The baby didn’t stir.

Luke’s eyes fluttered open. “What? Who… Alicia? What are you doing here?” he murmured, rubbing his face as he woke up.

“Meet me in the kitchen right now!” Alicia said in a low but urgent whisper and walked away.

Luke got up slowly and followed her. He looked tired and confused. “You’re here early,” he said.

“Yes, whatever. Who is that baby, Luke? What’s going on?” Alicia asked sharply.

Luke yawned and scratched his head. “I’m not sure, Alicia. Someone left him on our doorstep a few days ago. I’ve been taking care of him.”

“What? That makes no sense! We have to call the police!” Alicia demanded, growing more anxious.

“We will, I promise. But I keep forgetting because I’m looking after him. Look, I’m exhausted, and so are you. Let’s sleep on it and figure things out in the morning, okay?”

“No! We have to figure it out now!” Alicia insisted.

“Shhh, please! It’s late, and you’ll wake the baby. Let’s just sleep,” Luke pleaded, walking back to the bedroom before she could answer.

“Fine,” she whispered and followed him. She lay down on the other side of the baby. Their bed was huge, so there was plenty of room. Surprisingly, Alicia fell asleep quickly that night, her mind buzzing but quiet.

At 7 a.m., Alicia woke up to muffled voices from the living room. She rolled over and noticed Luke and the baby were gone. Quietly, she slipped out of bed and tiptoed toward the voices, careful not to be seen.

“Luke, when are you going to tell her? This can’t go on like this!” a woman’s annoyed voice said.

“Please, keep it down! I don’t know how to tell her yet,” Luke whispered, sounding worried.

Alicia’s heart raced. Who was the woman? Was this about the baby? Was she Luke’s secret baby mama? She debated whether to confront them but decided to listen a bit longer.

“Please, let’s wait for the DNA test results. I’ll tell her then,” Luke said softly.

DNA test? What was going on? Alicia’s jaw dropped. Luke had gotten someone pregnant? She couldn’t just stand there any longer. She stepped into the living room.

“What’s going on here? I want the truth, Luke. I heard everything. What DNA test? Is she your baby mama?” Alicia demanded, arms crossed, her voice sharp.

Luke and the woman turned around, surprised to see her.

The woman smiled calmly. “Baby mama? That’s funny,” she laughed lightly.

“Nothing’s funny about this! Luke, did you cheat on me with this woman?!” Alicia almost shouted, tears threatening to come.

“No! No! I swear! Please listen to me,” Luke begged, stepping toward Alicia with his hands out.

“You have ten seconds,” Alicia warned, eyes blazing.

“This is my sister, Linda,” Luke said firmly.

Alicia blinked, stunned. “What?” she whispered.

“Linda and I met by chance two weeks ago. At the supermarket. We looked so alike, it was crazy! Then we found out we were both orphans. We’re waiting on a DNA test to confirm, but I think we’re siblings. I even remember playing with her at the orphanage, but it’s fuzzy,” Luke explained, his voice full of hope and disbelief.

“That’s… unbelievable,” Alicia muttered, looking at Linda. The woman looked so much like Luke it was almost spooky—like they were twins, only different genders.

Luke went on, “We’ve gotten really close since then. Last night, Linda had an emergency and asked me to watch her baby, Tony. I was too tired to explain it all earlier.”

Alicia’s anger started to melt away as she listened. She invited Linda inside to hear her side. Linda told a remarkable story, full of loneliness and hope. Luke apologized for not telling Alicia sooner, saying he didn’t want to ruin her trip with this complicated news.

“The DNA results will come in a few days. You can see them for yourself,” Linda said kindly. “I really hope we’re siblings. Not having family is the hardest thing.”

Alicia smiled, glad to hear Linda had a husband. The story suddenly felt real, and she forgave Luke quickly. Tony was adorable, after all.

A few days later, the DNA test confirmed it: Luke and Linda were siblings. From then on, they spent more time together. Alicia loved seeing Luke dote on his new nephew, Tony. She realized something important: family is everything.
