The Nelons, a beloved gospel family, have been struck by a terrible tragedy. A plane carrying seven members of the Nelon family crashed, killing everyone on board.
The devastating accident claimed the lives of Jason and Kelly Nelon Clark, their daughter Amber, and Amber’s husband, Nathan Kistler. Also lost in the crash were Melanie Hodges, a valued family employee, and Larry Haynie, the pilot, along with his wife, Melissa. The plane was on its way to Alaska for the Gaither Homecoming Cruise when it crashed over Wyoming.
Eyewitnesses reported that the plane exploded into flames on impact, and a wildfire broke out at the crash site. Emergency crews raced to the scene, but tragically, there were no survivors.
Autumn Nelon Streetman, the only surviving member of the family, was not on the plane. In her emotional statement, she shared her grief: “As many of you know by now, my parents, Jason and Kelly Nelon Clark, along with my sister Amber, brother-in-law Nathan, and our dear friends Melanie Hodges, Larry, and Melissa Haynie, were in a terrible plane crash on Friday.”
She also expressed her gratitude for the outpouring of support: “Thank you for the prayers that have already been said for me, my husband Jamie, our soon-to-be-born son, and Jason’s parents, Dan and Linda Clark. Your prayers, love, and support will help us get through the next few days. Thank you.”
A video taken shortly before the tragic flight shows Jason chatting happily with his family and the pilot on a Nebraska runway, all smiles and excitement.
The aircraft, a Pilatus PC-12/47E owned by Haynie Enterprises, is under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) to determine the cause of the crash.
The Nelons were inducted into the Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame in 2016 and are remembered as one of the most influential families in gospel music history.
Their well-known songs include “I Shall Not Be Moved,” “Come Morning,” and “We Shall Wear a Robe and Crown.” They also received three Grammy nominations during their esteemed career.
