After Mom’s Death, Woman Leaves Sister 3 Dollar Bills and a Note as Her Inheritance – Story of the Day

Share this:

When Julia and Helga’s father passed away, things went downhill fast. What should have been a time for family to grieve quickly turned into a nasty fight over inheritance.

Helga was furious when she found out how their mother, Mrs. Hanson, had split the estate. It was the beginning of a battle that would go beyond the grave.

“HOW DARE YOU?” Helga’s voice screamed down the phone line, making Julia freeze in the kitchen. Her sister was in a full rage, yelling at their mother, who was on the other end of the line in the living room. Even though the phone wasn’t on speaker, Julia could hear every word loud and clear.

Helga was upset that their mother had decided to leave her 30% of the estate, while Julia would receive everything else. It wasn’t exactly a 50/50 split, but Mrs. Hanson thought Julia deserved more because they had always been closer.

Helga, on the other hand, had been selfish and only seemed to visit or call when she wanted something. But Mrs. Hanson, who was a little soft-hearted, decided to give her something anyway. Helga had just had twins at the age of 47, and their father’s passing made her change her mind.

“Helga, please don’t yell,” Mrs. Hanson said, trying to calm her down. Julia walked into the living room, and her mother sighed deeply, realizing the conversation was only going to get worse. She switched the phone to speaker mode.

“I knew you would see sense, Julia,” Helga said, turning on her charm. “Our mother was so stubborn.”

“MOTHER!” Helga screeched. “You can’t just give everything to Julia! She doesn’t even have kids! What about the twins? They deserve their share of the money!”

Julia’s heart sank as she stood there, unable to stop listening.

“Helga, it doesn’t matter whether Julia has children or not. She’s given up so much of her life for me and your father. And you? You’ve been absent unless you wanted something. You’re married and have your own life.

This is my money, and I get to decide who gets it,” Mrs. Hanson said firmly. But that wasn’t the answer Helga wanted to hear.

“I DON’T CARE ABOUT WHAT JULIA HAS DONE!” Helga yelled. “YOU’RE SO STUBBORN! I CAN’T WAIT UNTIL YOU DIE, AND I’LL SUE FOR MY SHARE! GOODBYE!”

The phone call ended abruptly, and Mrs. Hanson buried her face in her hands, exhausted from the argument. Julia, who had been trying to calm her mother, was furious. How could Helga say something so cruel to their own mother?

“Mom, don’t worry. She’s just upset,” Julia lied, trying to ease her mother’s pain. But deep down, she knew that Helga meant every word.

Months passed, and Helga kept calling to push for a bigger share of the estate. Their mother had already made up her mind, but Helga’s constant pestering took a toll on Mrs. Hanson. Julia was seething with anger at how cruel her sister had become.

Then, Mrs. Hanson passed away. At the funeral, Helga put on a big act, pretending to be distraught over their mother’s death. Most of their relatives weren’t fooled. They knew how selfish Helga had been, but they didn’t know the full extent of her behavior during their mother’s final months.

After the funeral, Helga called Julia again, demanding more money from the inheritance. Julia had had enough. She needed to find a way to teach Helga a lesson she would never forget.

One day, during a phone call, Julia came up with a plan. “I’ve decided to sell Mom’s house. I want to move to New York, and I’ll give you 50% of the sale, even though the house is in my name. Is that fair?”

Helga’s voice was full of greed as she replied, “That’s fantastic, Julia! I knew you’d come around. You’re the best aunt to the twins, I swear! This is all for their future.”

Julia didn’t care if Helga was actually planning to use the money for the twins. She was lying through her teeth. The house sold quickly, and Helga was practically drooling over the thought of receiving half of the proceeds. Julia had no intentions of giving her sister anything.

Before she left for New York, Julia met with Helga one last time for coffee. “I’ll place your share in a safety deposit box. I’ll send you the details later,” Julia told her sister, smiling sweetly.

Helga, completely unaware of Julia’s intentions, responded happily, “Of course! Of course! I’m going to miss you so much!”

“Yeah, sure,” Julia said, standing up and awkwardly hugging her sister. Helga put on the act of being sad, but Julia didn’t trust her for a second.

A week later, Julia sent Helga the details to the safety deposit box. Helga couldn’t wait to get her hands on the money. She asked her husband, “Why couldn’t she just wire the money to our account? What’s wrong with her?”

Her husband, suspicious, agreed. “She’s an idiot. I’ll go to the bank myself.”

At the bank, Helga eagerly opened the safety deposit box, only to find three $1 bills inside. Confused, she looked at the note next to the bills. It read: “That’s all you deserve.”

Helga’s screams echoed through the bank, as she finally realized what had happened. Julia had played her, and it was too late to do anything about it. Helga never heard from her sister again.

In the end, Julia didn’t just take her mother’s wishes to heart; she taught her greedy sister a valuable lesson. Helga’s selfishness and cruelty had cost her everything.

So, what can we learn from this story? Greed leads to nothing but disappointment. Helga treated everyone poorly and only cared about money. In the end, she got what she deserved. Julia stuck to her mother’s wishes and made sure Helga learned the hard way.
