The 92-year-old husband, Feng Ming, was rushed to the ICU after suffering heart failure. Sadly, his condition quickly worsened, and his organs began to fail. Soon after, he developed a serious lung infection, and his ability to speak faded away. Feng’s doctors and family knew that time was running out.
Feng’s family made the painful decision to stop his life support treatment and bring him home. But before he left, there was one final wish he wanted to fulfill—he wanted to see his wife, Zhang Ping, one more time. The couple had been married for 66 years, and their bond was unbreakable.
A Loving Couple, Separated by Illness
Feng’s wife, Zhang Ping, was also in the hospital at the time. At 95 years old, she was staying on another floor, receiving treatment for a fractured femur.
Though they were in the same hospital, they were kept apart by their separate rooms and treatments, both struggling with their own health issues. But Feng’s final wish was to be with her, and the hospital staff worked tirelessly to make this happen.

Wang, the head nurse, shared her thoughts with New China: “The ICU’s visiting hours are from 3:00 pm to 3:30 pm, but Feng’s condition was too serious to wait until then.” Wang decided to make a special arrangement, knowing how important this meeting was for the elderly couple.
A Special Reunion
At Wang’s request, Zhang Ping was transferred on a stretcher from the 14th floor, where she had been recovering, down to the ICU on the third floor. There, Feng and Zhang were able to see each other for what could very well have been the last time. It was a reunion full of love and emotion.
Wang described the touching moment, saying, “Feng’s wife held his hand and spoke to him in their local dialect, saying: ‘Don’t worry about me. Rest assured that I can take good care of myself.’” These words brought tears to Feng’s eyes, and for a brief moment, the couple was reunited in a peaceful, loving embrace.
A Final Goodbye
Sadly, after their reunion, Feng passed away just a few hours later in the comfort of his own home. Although the situation was heartbreaking, it was also a moment filled with love and comfort.
Wang, the head nurse, reflected on the decision to allow the couple to meet: “We made an exception for the elderly couple to meet so that this touching moment could happen and be preserved. I am grateful that we made the right choice.”
