10+ Stories With Endings More Disturbing Than a Halloween Film

Halloween is a time for eerie stories that make your heart pound and give you chills. But sometimes, the scariest tales are the ones that are real. In this collection, we’ve gathered some unsettling true stories that will keep you on the edge of your seat, questioning what’s real and what’s not.

Story 1:

It was 4 a.m. when I heard the voice. At first, I thought it was a dream, but then I realized it was coming through the baby monitor. A soft, eerie voice kept singing, “Hush now, baby, I came for you.” My heart skipped a beat. We were alone in the house, no one else was supposed to be there.

I rushed to my baby’s room. She was peacefully asleep, no sign of any disturbance. I tried to calm myself, telling myself it was just a bad dream. But when I reached over to adjust her blanket, my hand brushed something cold. I looked down and my blood ran cold. Beneath her arm, I found a message written in strange handwriting:

“Make sure to take care of your child more!” I froze, holding the note, not able to move or speak. My stomach twisted in knots.

Hours later, I fell asleep while still holding the note. When I woke up, it was gone. I searched everywhere, but it had completely vanished. To this day, I wonder if it was all just a nightmare—but everything felt so real, I can’t shake the feeling that something was watching over us.

Story 2:

When I was about 17, my friends and I decided to do a ghost hunt at one of their houses. The girl who lived there and her sisters had told us strange stories about ghosts haunting their home. Of course, I was skeptical, but I had nothing better to do.

We spent hours in the house, trying to get a reaction. I was sitting in a chair next to a locked door, bored and half-ignoring everything. Then suddenly, the door’s handle started twisting on its own. The door creaked open halfway, then swung fully open before slamming shut with a loud bang. My heart raced. But that wasn’t the worst part.

Just as I was starting to calm down, I felt something—footsteps. They weren’t mine, but they were right behind me. The hairs on my neck stood up, and I turned around, expecting to see one of my friends playing a prank. But no one was there. From that moment on, I wasn’t a skeptic anymore.

Story 3:

When I was fourteen, I spent the summer with my grandparents in a small, quiet town. One night, around 11 p.m., I was thirsty, so I got up to grab a drink from the kitchen. As I walked into the room, I saw someone sitting at the table. I thought it was my grandfather, eating a sandwich. I said, “Hi,” grabbed my water, and went back to my room.

A few minutes later, my grandfather came out of his room and asked me who I was talking to. I was confused. I turned around to look at the kitchen, but no one was there. The chair was empty. I still remember that moment vividly, and it still terrifies me. Who had I seen that night?

Story 4:

One night, I was working on my computer when I heard my son wake up. He let out his usual little whine, followed by the familiar “Mommmyyyy” sound. My heart sank. I jumped up to go get him, but then I remembered—he wasn’t home. He was at a sleepover at my parents’ house.

That night, I lay in bed, feeling the chill of his voice echoing in my mind. I couldn’t shake the feeling that something was wrong.

Story 5:

I was playing paintball with friends in the forests of North Carolina, and somehow, I got completely lost. The forest was thick, and the trees all looked the same. What I thought was only a few minutes of wandering turned into hours. I kept yelling “help,” but no one came.

Turns out, I wasn’t even lost. I was only about 10 feet away from everyone else, but they thought I was using my voice as a decoy in the game. They heard me yelling, but no one moved to help. That thought still haunts me. What if something had really been out there?

Story 6:

About two months after my father passed away, my family gathered around the dinner table, sharing memories of him. We were laughing and talking when suddenly, the globe that covered the light on the ceiling just fell—straight down onto the table. It didn’t shatter, roll, or even move after it hit. It just sat there, perfectly still. No one said a word. We all stared at it, unsure of what to do.

Story 7:

We had been living in our new house for about two and a half years when things started to get weird. It started with faint knocking sounds, always coming from the front of the house or the hallway leading to the kids’ bedroom. I thought it was just the house settling, but one night, it got worse.

Late one night, I heard footsteps. They went from my wife’s side of the bed to the opposite side of the room, then stopped. In the morning, I found her phone lying exactly where the footsteps had stopped. She had no idea how it got there, and I never told her what I had heard. I just kept quiet.

Story 8:

The night my older brother passed away, I was staying in an apartment across the hall from a neighbor who owned a fierce Rottweiler. At around 3 a.m., there were three distinct knocks on the door, followed by the Rottweiler barking frantically. We opened the door, but no one was there.

The next day, my aunt came home crying. She told me, “I felt like someone knocked on my door at 3 a.m. I thought it was your brother. But there was no one.” I couldn’t say anything. It sent chills down my spine.

Story 9:

It was the 1990s, and I was playing a computer game in the living room when my dad came in and talked to me for about a minute. After that, he went back to his room to bed. A few minutes later, I felt like something was watching me. I looked up and saw a figure—exactly like my dad—standing where he had been. It was blurry, like shimmering smoke. I could see right through it, and my heart raced with fear.

Story 10:

When I was in kindergarten, I used to take the bus home every day. For the first few weeks, I kept seeing my grandfather standing by the side of the road near the entrance to my neighborhood. Every time, he would wave at me, and I would wave back. I thought it was just him watching over me.

It wasn’t until later that I realized my grandfather had died two weeks before school started. What’s even creepier? He had passed away right beside the pond, just a few steps away from that road.
